Job Description
As a BIW Dimensional Feasibility & Maturation Engineer you will be working with a Dimensional Maturation & Feasibility Team, who are responsible for all elements of BIW Dimensional Quality, including the upfront Dimensional Feasibility of BIW Body Structures / Closure Assembly product design, defining and delivering the Location and Measurement strategy, supporting the assembly and tooling strategy, defining part tolerancing and validating part conformance, through to the dimensional maturation of new vehicles throughout a product launch.
Main responsibilities:
1. Post Launch problem solving capabilities with knowledge around cladding, joining and hemming issues.
2. Completing a full Dimensional Feasibility Assessment of the latest product design at each geometry freeze. This is to include but not exclusive to Locators, Design Slip, Design rules and GD&T.
3. Documenting all identified product issues into JIRA stories.
4. Engaging with key stakeholders to find resolution to issues.
5. Conducting internal/external benchmarking to gather evidence of issues or to identify potential design solutions.
6. Supporting relevant Agile squad, attending cadence of reviews; sprint planning sessions, daily start-up’s, showcases and retrospectives. Driving for robust closure of all raised issues in a timely manner in readiness for next vehicle freeze. Blocking stories and escalating where appropriate.
7. Documenting single panel and assembly locators in Catia V6, aligning these to the Platform strategy, gauging generics and Bill of Process. Updating locators in readiness for each geometry freeze.
8. Creating and maintaining Biased and Critical Tolerance brochures. Ensuring these are aligned to the Platform strategy, and available for each stage of part sourcing.
9. Supporting Supplier reviews to ensure dimensional requirements are understood and considered.
10. Reviewing Lessons Learnt (PR AIMs, IQM, Plant High Hurt issues) and conduct risk assessment.
11. Supporting with Bill of Process development, ensuring any non-compliances are identified.
12. Supporting with new technology risk mitigation activities/trials.
13. Conducting analysis of carryover content from existing car-lines, arranging for part measurement if required.
14. Supporting DVA team with Model development, ensuring it is a fair reflection of process.
15. Attending Tooling Design Reviews. Ensure standards have been applied, any concerns are raised and that any locator position changes are made.
16. Influencing Bill of Process / Line Layout for Dimensional requirements.
17. Supporting events for early product assessment.
18. Supporting core team activities with Product and Process Standardisation.
Qualifications
Essential:
19. Experience gained in a BIW, Trim or Final Assembly environment.
20. Excellent organisational and Project Management skills.
21. Experience in dimensional/geometric maturation.
22. Experience in product launch phases (virtual and delivery).
23. Strong stakeholder management experience.
24. Drive to succeed.
25. 3D Catia experience.
26. Strong knowledge of MS Office, especially Outlook, Teams, Excel & PowerPoint.
Desirable:
27. Dimensional Management & DVA experience.
28. Body Construction or Final Assembly Manufacturing Engineering experience.
29. VisVSA knowledge.
30. Dassault 3DX PLM experience.
31. Six Sigma Problem solving skillset.
32. AGILE awareness, JIRA.
33. Gauging, Tooling and fixture design experience.
34. BiW metrology knowledge.
