Graduate Tools Programmer
Location: In Studio (Glasgow)
Role Type: 1 Year Contract
We are looking for a Graduate Tools Programmer to join our Glasgow-based studio and support the development of in-house tools and technology that enhance our game development process. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic programmer at the start of their career to work alongside experienced developers, contributing to tools that streamline workflows and empower creative teams. Key Responsibilities
1. Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of in-house tools and pipelines to support game production.
2. Collaborate with artists, designers, and programmers to understand their requirements and develop intuitive, user-friendly tools.
3. Work with the wider code team to ensure tools integrate effectively with game engines and other systems.
4. Troubleshoot and debug tools and workflows, learning how to identify and resolve technical challenges.
5. Maintain documentation for tools and workflows to help ensure usability and longevity.
6. Stay curious and eager to learn new technologies and methodologies, contributing to the team’s technical expertise.
7. Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions, sharing ideas and feedback.
Required
1. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
2. Strong understanding of programming fundamentals and object-oriented programming.
3. Some experience with C# and C# as a bonus (academic, personal projects, or internships).
4. Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python.
5. A demonstrable passion for problem-solving and creating efficient technical solutions.
6. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
7. A portfolio of academic or personal projects showcasing tools, systems, or relevant programming work.
Desired
1. Familiarity with game engines like Unity, Unreal Engine as a bonus.
2. Basic understanding of asset pipelines, automation, or procedural content generation.
3. Experience creating simple user interfaces (UI) for tools or applications.
4. A proactive attitude and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and methodologies.
5. An interest in exploring advanced tools development topics under mentorship from senior team members.
