We are looking for a motivated individual to form part of the specialist nursing team delivering the Reversible Dementia Clinic and advanced CSF diagnostics, within the Hydrocephalus and Brain Dynamics Service. The role requires excellent communication skills with both patients and professional colleagues, and a willingness to learn procedural skills implemented within the practice.
You will form part of the team consisting of neurosurgeons, specialist nurses, neuropsychologists, infusion technicians, and a service co-ordinator. You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, diagnostic implementation, and evaluation of care in your specialist area, working as an autonomous practitioner with highly specialist skills, as well as contributing to the CSF service’s key research aims and outputs. The role also supports innovation and research into the assessment, treatment, and surveillance of CSF disorders, in collaboration with established clinical, academic, and industrial partners. Prior experience of specialist nursing in this area is desirable but not essential, and appropriate training and mentorship will be provided within the role.
Key responsibilities will include clinical assessment in an outpatient and inpatient setting, performing diagnostic procedures including lumbar puncture and reservoir infusion studies, and engagement in audit, education and outreach, and support clinical studies in accordance with the department’s research strategy.
Deliver a specialist clinical service to patients with hydrocephalus and disorders of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) dynamics, with a particular focus on the management of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).
Responsible for the assessment, planning, diagnosis implementation and evaluation of care, as an autonomous practitioner with highly specialist skills.
Be involved in the strategic development and review of the clinical service as appropriate.
Be responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care.
The postholder will contribute to the CSF service’s key research aims and outputs, including producing relevant scientific publications and presentations as required. The post will be expected to lead defined research areas which ideally would be related to effectiveness of care models and pathways or, could be to develop own areas of expertise.
This post will provide a key role in delivering internal, regional, and national education for multi-professional staff in relation to the service and sharing of best practice. The post holder will lead on developing educational pathways with our higher education partners in relation to hydrocephalus care with a particular focus on NPH.
The postholder will also be a driving force in expanding the research skills, clinical experience, and involvement across the specialist service in accordance with the department’s research strategy.
