Our client is an innovative biotechnology company based outside of the centre of Cambridge. They run their own gene therapy portfolio and have built a platform to synthesise gene constructs which provides exciting possibilities for ensuring cheaper, faster and more accurate DNA / gene constructs than traditional plasmid-based methods. In a key phase of their growth, our client is looking to onboard a competent scientist in the field of molecular biology and construct generation on a full-time and permanent basis.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity for a Scientist who has a strong background in molecular cloning and gene assembly (Golden Gate, Gibson assembly, Hifi) and potentially software like Benchling / SnapGene etc. If you are looking for the next step in your career then this opportunity could be for you. As a Scientist within the molecular biology team you will be responsible for:
* Working on a range of molecular biology projects relating to synthetic DNA process development.
* Use of techniques including: DNA cloning (Gibson assembly, HiFi, Golden Gate cloning), primer design, PCR, restriction enzyme digests, plasmid purification, E. coli transformation, gel electrophoresis and synthetic biology.
* Keep a comprehensive and up-to-date record of experiments and data/results.
* Plan, refine and complete experiments which align with overall project plans.
* Work individually and collaboratively within the R&D teams.
* Attend departmental meetings and training sessions.
Skills and Experience Needed
The ideal candidate will have the following:
* BSc/MSc in a biological discipline + industry experience in molecular cloning (Gibson, Golden Gate, HiFi, etc) (essential – fresh MSc graduates will also be considered, as will other equivalent experience).
* Experience in E. coli transformations and plasmid preparation (essential).
* Experience in gel electrophoresis and DNA/RNA quantification (essential).
* Experience in Primer and Sequence Design (desired).
* Experience in DNA assembly i.e Golden Gate and Gibson assembly (desired).
* Experience in troubleshooting and developing laboratory protocols (desired).
The Package
As an up-and-coming Cambridge Biotech, our client is able to offer a competitive salary, progression options and benefits package including private pension and private health insurance.
