Band 5-6 Development Speech & Language Therapist (Buckinghamshire)

Due to the internal movement of staff members, there is an exciting opportunity for a committed Speech and Language Therapist to join the Specialist Learning Disability Service in Buckinghamshire. The service is based across Buckinghamshire, with a base in Aylesbury, a base in High Wycombe and opportunities to work flexibly from home. The successful candidate will work as an influential and integral member of a diverse multi-disciplinary team and will join the well-established Speech and Language Therapy service. This is a development post ideally suited to a Newly Qualified SLT interested in Learning Disabilities. We welcome applications from SLT graduates and those due to qualify in the near future. Newly qualified SLTs will be supported at Band 5 level and following completion of a competency framework, they will be transferred to a Band 6 role without the need for additional recruitment. We also welcome applications from more experienced therapists and those already working at Band 6 level.
Main duties of the job
You will support Adults with Learning Disabilities who have communication needs and those who have dysphagia needs as your skills develop, in line with the band 5-6 competency framework developed by the Trust. You will receive regular clinical supervision and support from the members of the Speech and Language Therapy team, peer supervision and will be actively encouraged to participate in continuing professional development. You will have the opportunity to work creatively and support with service development. The team is an integrated MDT and joint working is typical of the team's working style and ethos.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
* State registration with HCPC
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Postgraduate training in Learning Disabilities, mental health/challenging behaviour and physical/sensory disabilities
* Accredited dysphagia training or willingness to undertake
Experience
* Range of clinical experience and ability to demonstrate application of clinical skills
* Specialist knowledge and application of speech and language therapy assessments and interventions
* Experience of delivering care to service users with complex needs
* Experience of supervising junior staff and students
* Experience of working within Learning Disabilities
Physical Skills
* Car driver essential, or access to a car (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 which prevents you from driving).
Analytical Skills
* Broad knowledge of current best practice in SLT and Learning Disabilities
* Planning and co-ordination of treatment packages
* Ability to use problem solving techniques
* Ability to analyze professional and ethical issues
* Knowledge of risk assessment and management
* Applied knowledge of mental health legislation
