Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:
1. Support the Head of Science in the leadership and management of the Science department, including planning, monitoring, and evaluating the curriculum.
2. Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and initiatives to raise standards of teaching and learning.
3. Lead on specific projects or areas of responsibility within the department, such as curriculum development, assessment strategies, or staff development.
4. Act as a mentor and provide guidance to colleagues within the department, including supporting newly qualified and less experienced teachers.
5. Contribute to the performance management process by observing lessons and providing constructive feedback to colleagues.
Teaching and Learning:
1. Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons in Science for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students.
2. Develop and implement schemes of work in line with the National Curriculum and school policies.
3. Foster a stimulating and supportive classroom environment that encourages student participation and achievement.
4. Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with SEND and EAL.
5. Assess, record, and report on students' progress, attainment, and development in accordance with school and departmental guidelines.
Classroom Management:
1. Establish high expectations for behaviour and maintain a positive, orderly classroom environment.
2. Implement school behaviour policies effectively to promote mutual respect and responsibility.
3. Ensure the safety and welfare of all students within the classroom and school environment.
Professional Development and Collaboration:
1. Participate in departmental meetings, staff briefings, and whole-school events as required.
2. Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practices and contribute to the development of teaching resources and strategies.
3. Attend and engage in relevant professional development opportunities to enhance subject knowledge and pedagogy.
Parental Engagement:
1. Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding students' progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
2. Participate in parent evenings and provide constructive feedback on student performance.
