Multi-skilled facilities engineer The Role: You will be responsible to carry out routine reactive and planned maintenance of the site equipment. You also will be expected to resolve any process, equipment or building issues that may arise which need special technical assistance. You will be required to undertake electrical and mechanical maintenance on laboratory equipment, utilities plant, electrical systems and lighting to ensure the smooth running of the business, in a cost-effective manner whilst meeting strict Health and Safety standards. Main duties and responsibilities: • Creating a maintenance plan for the organisation’s equipment • Reviewing and updating the maintenance policies and procedures • Ensuring that planned maintenance is carried out according to a schedule, in a timely manner and in accordance with relevant procedures • Conducting frequent quality checks on equipment to ensure no unplanned maintenance is required • Completing emergency maintenance when equipment breaks down • Carrying out electrical and mechanical repairs • Managing the budget for the maintenance of equipment • Keeping a record of preventive and emergency maintenance carried out • Ensuring downtime is kept to a minimum and maximising the plant and equipment availability • Ensuring the organisation complies with safety regulations while maintenance takes place • Liaising with external suppliers and contractors • Managing the Site engineering projects • Operating within a call out rota for one week at a time on call 24/7 to respond to breakdowns, leaks or alarms as required. Experience/Qualifications HNC, City & Guilds or time served apprentice with appropriate engineering qualifications. Experience within a similar role ideally gained within a GMP environment. Excellent fault-finding skills using root cause analysis. Project management experience highly desirable. The Person: The ideal candidate will have the following: At least three years’ experience in a facilities maintenance role HNC, City & Guilds or time served apprenticeship in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Time served Electrical, Mechanical or Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer In depth knowledge of pneumatic & electrical systems including diagnostic fault-finding. Must be able to attend to both mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks Excellent fault-finding / diagnostic and problem solving skills Excellent communication skills and a team player Flexible and hard-working mind-set Good knowledge of HVAC systems is highly desirable Must demonstrate a stable work history Business skills for interacting with suppliers, overseeing projects and managing budgets Ability to understand a variety of engineering procedures and functions Team-working skills to liaise and work cooperatively with individuals at all levels Negotiation skills and the ability to persuade others Ability to work under pressure Interpersonal and people-management skills Excellent time management skills
