This is a global benchmark that recognises employers who create an outstanding employee experience. ROLE SUMMARY We are looking for a Theatre Runner to join our Newmedica Oxfordshire site. This will be full time role, working 40 hours over 5 days per week. In the future there may be weekend working on a rota basis. Theatre Runners are an integral part of our theatre team and will undertake a variety of duties. You’ll be assisting in setting the theatre up ready to accommodate patients. We can typically see 18-22 patients a day in our high-volume cataract surgery provision, so you’ll thrive working in an efficient and fast paced environment. Reporting to the Lead Theatre Practitioner, our Theatre Runners will support the delivery of high quality and high-volume cataract surgery. You will assist the wider theatre team to ensure the patient journey runs as smoothly as possible. Full training will be provided for this role. To assist in the preparation of theatre equipment and instrumentation prior to a surgical list commencing. Preparing consumables for patients and ensure pre/post op are fully equipped. Administer topical medications as required by the provider for preparation of surgery. Assist the team in positioning patient for surgery and moving equipment. To assist the scrub nurse and surgeon in theatre. Attend and participate in team meetings, briefing and debriefing as required. To assist with the administrative function of the surgical team including the accurate documentation of records using the electronic systems. Entering accurate data onto the electronic patient record system in a timely manner. To carryout theatre preparation of patient documentation. Assist in weekly/monthly stock checks, including checking expiry dates and re-stocking the theatre area. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Providing hand holding services for patients as and when required. To take a patient through pre op, surgery and post op. Working with other staff, including surgeons to ensure optimal patient flow, including assisting them if required. Maintaining cleanliness according to Infection Prevention Control policies. Ensuring that all checks and documentations are completed properly according to their schedule; daily, weekly, monthly. Committed to continued professional development and clinical governance, including participating in appraisal process, completion of mandatory training and clinical audits and research as required. Following national policies, procedures and guidelines as set and established by Newmedica. What skills and experience do I need? We’ll provide full training so experience isn’t always needed, but the following things will be advantageous: EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION A good level of general education or with equivalent experience GCSE Maths and English EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE Proven customer service skills with a passion for customer care. Previous experience of working with patients or carers would be desirable although not essential. Ability to build a working knowledge of eye physiology and treatment. Previous experience is not expected. Fully computer literate - comfortable with Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn new patient record systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a good telephone manner. Excellent organisation skills and the ability to multi-task.
