What You'll Do
The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.
Reporting to the Chief IP Counsel, the position will have responsibility for the following tasks:
* Draft and negotiate a full range of IP and IT related contracts.
* Partner with business and licensing teams to negotiate and draft intellectual property, software and technology licenses.
* Negotiate and draft collaboration and partnership agreements with a strong awareness of IP risks.
* Collaborate with commercial, technology and sourcing teams on commercial and sourcing agreements, including software and IP.
* Apply legal and business judgment to proposed deals, relationships and other issues requiring legal attention.
* Support technology and licensing teams to generate revenue through IP monetization.
* Develop legal processes and templates for new business and commercial models (including through the use of artificial intelligence (AI)).
* Advise on open-source software (OSS) issues and ensuring software and EULAs comply with OSS policy.
* Provide legal training to product, research and software teams to help identify and navigate risks that may arise during the course of doing business.
* Support the negotiation and drafting of IP dispute settlement agreements.
Who You Are
* Qualified Solicitor specialising in IP.
* Preferably (but not essential) qualification as a Patent Attorney.
* Extensive experience in drafting and negotiating IP licenses.
* Solid knowledge of intellectual property (including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets) and contract law.
* Experience in handling software legal matters, including software licenses, open-source software, EULAs, evaluation, SaaS and development agreements, and the use of AI
* Experience in negotiating and drafting IP settlement agreements.
* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong project management and prioritization skills, ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Significant experience working in a corporate legal department or large law firm.
* Experience of working within the life sciences/biotechnology space would be preferred
* Ability to travel to global sites in Europe, US, China and Asia when required.
There will be lots of interaction with senior players in the business, our client are looking for someone who can steer and navigate a team alongside the Chief IP Counsel.
Offices in Amersham, ideally 3 days a week in, but for those further afield a 'reasonable' in-office policy in place.
