An exciting opportunity has arisen within the haematology department for a suitably qualified associate practitioner.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to join our King George Laboratory to help with the day-to-day running of the haematology service.
The ideal candidate will be a fast learner, organized, and willing to learn new skills in a laboratory environment. Please note this is not a Trainee BMS position.
Responsibilities:
1. Rotate through the various sections of General Blood Sciences, working under the direction of Biomedical Scientists.
2. To work the urgent bench competently and process the samples within the stated Turnaround times.
3. For Blood Sciences requests, enter patient demographics, test request information, results and comments, taking responsibility for the accuracy of new information entered onto the Pathology database.
4. Perform investigations on patient samples, (mainly blood and urine), ranging from specialised manual techniques to automated investigations on large, expensive and technically sophisticated multichannel analysers.
5. To safely handle, use or dispose of blood, urine, faeces or other biological material, and hazardous or radioactive chemicals.
6. Undertake preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment prior to them being used for patient investigations.
7. Carry out first line equipment and method troubleshooting, advising line managers of situations requiring further action, and carry out initial repairs following guidance from service engineers to resolve faults.
