You will:
work closely with project teams, in the delivery of advice, planning and heritage consents, permitted development use and planning policy consultations to enable railway development and safeguard the operation of the railway;
provide advice on complex and sensitive projects affecting the large number of listed buildings and structures in our ownership; and
support one of the countrys largest land and property owners to generate sustainable income to reinvest it into our rail infrastructure.

Here are some of the duties your role will include: -
Deliver an efficient and effective Town Planning service to client group(s) and ad hoc projects/programmes for the work area including (but not limited to): preparing and submitting statutory planning and related notifications and applications; submitting appeals; responding to statutory development plan consultations; and providing development appraisals. Provide professional direction, representation and support for less complex projects to internal clients and external stakeholders to maximise asset value and minimise project risk.
Maintain strong relationships with and be responsive to the needs of individual customers on specific projects and programmes across the range of Town Planning services within Network Rail.
Support existing relationships with external stakeholders to facilitate delivery of Town Planning services on specific projects and programmes.
Develop and maintain close and effective working relationships with internal colleagues to enable efficient and effective service delivery.
Provide technical leadership on the full range of Town Planning services.
Identify and implement changes required to support Town Planning services overall strategy and the delivery of efficient and effective services. Provide input to the provision of strategic and tactical support and guidance on development programmes and projects.
Be responsible for Town Planning support to less complex projects.
Support the resourcing and management of Town Planning services to the client group and ad hoc projects/programmes for the work area, including use of external Town Planning resources when required.
What you will bring to the role:
Essential :-
We are looking for an experienced town planner with a proven track record to join our team. As a town planner youll understand the importance of the railway to sustainable development, and to achieving the Scottish Governments ambitious plans to decarbonise Scotland's Railway., Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally with a town planning qualification.
Be MRTPI or MRICS qualified or eligible for the RTPI or RICS licentiate scheme.
Strong communication and negotiation skills
In addition to the above, for this specific role you will also require: -
proven post-qualification town planning experience

Understanding of heritage legislation and issues
Experience of local development plans and/or other planning policy work
Understanding of environmental legislation and issues
Full Driving Licence
