The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and high performing Principal Hardware Engineer to join our APNT (Assured Position Navigation and Timing), Digital GPS Anti-Jam Systems and Alternative Navigation Solutions for the military market.
The role will provide Design Authority expertise across Raytheon’s range of APNT products, providing technical direction across the product lifecycle, from requirements capture, analysis, design through testing, qualification and certification activities, release to volume production and ongoing product sustainability.
Main Duties:
1. Technical leadership and direction for the engineering hardware team, with Design Authority responsibility for assigned products.
2. Support in generating a development strategy and road maps for the APNT team.
3. Leading the technical input for Bids and Proposals and production of engineering estimates towards the successful capture of new business.
4. Working closely with the System Engineering Team to develop and shape the technical requirements, design, generation of technical documentation and manage these requirements through the design lifecycle.
5. Direct and indirect team management across the team, including performance goal setting, reward, recognition, and timesheets.
6. Providing Engineering representation to production IPT (Integrated Product Team) regarding investigating production queries, obsolescence management, and phasing of change management.
7. Responsible for technical design reviews and qualification, verification, validation, and certification of designs to ensure that we meet the highest standards the customer expects of Raytheon Products.
8. Supporting and mentoring junior engineers through their activities to ensure the team's growth and future success.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
1. Product development experience at team lead level.
2. Knowledge of high-speed digital design (up to GHz), electro-mechanical and thermal product design within harsh environments.
3. Understanding of RF concepts and techniques for analogue signals to 2GHz.
4. Design of circuits in analogue and digital, with exposure to FPGA or DSP control.
5. Proven experience and demonstrable achievement in systems engineering principles with regards to product development.
6. Experience in product qualification, for EMC, environmental requirements.
7. Experience in interpretation of customer specs and end use environments, and dealing with ambiguities.
8. Experience with generation of technical documentation at all levels.
9. Excellent stakeholder management and customer interfacing skills.
10. Willingness to travel throughout the UK, Europe, and the US.
11. Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics) or similar industry certification.
12. Eligible or current holder of SC security clearance.
Desirable:
1. Previous Design Authority experience for Hardware Product development.
2. Experience with interfacing to RF circuitry and high-speed D/A /A/D conversion.
3. Experience in schematic and PCB layout tools, and electronics simulation environments.
4. Knowledge of firmware development, design, and test using suitable toolsets.
5. Knowledge of GNSS systems and receiver characteristics.
6. Experience with SysML or UML in a Systems Engineering environment.

Work Culture:
37hr working week, although hours may vary depending on role, job requirement or site-specific arrangements. Early 1.30pm finish Friday, start your weekend early!
