Specialty Doctor in Cardiology
Job overview
The Cardiology Department prides itself on being innovative and dynamic, aiming to deliver the highest standards of cardiac care to patients. The department has four Cardiac Catheter Laboratories and three Cardiac Departments across the Trust, with 18 full-time Consultant Cardiologists. The post holder will be part of the senior Cardiology team, ensuring that the highest standards of care, in accordance with the National Service Framework for cardiology and relevant NICE guidance, are provided to patients. The Trust offers a 24/7 primary PCO service on behalf of Kent and Medway residents with approximately 750 pPCIs per year. We offer relocation expenses for permanent staff, 27-33 days’ annual leave (dependent on experience at the grade), and active support for study, quality improvement, and patient safety work as part of our ‘We care’ improvement journey, as well as medical education and research.
Main duties of the job
A job plan will be agreed with the successful applicant, working Monday to Friday initially, until the applicant is judged to work independently out of hours on a 24/7 basis. Most middle grades are on 12 Pas within a few months.
The job plan will include ward rounds, referrals, and management of the emergency and elective patient pathway at William Harvey Hospital. Training in echocardiography (including gaining BSE accreditation) is a priority for any middle grades who are not already independent at echo. Training in cardiac investigations (invasive and non-invasive) is available to all, and sub-speciality training in EP/devices or imaging may be available to appropriately qualified candidates within the overall training program for the middle grade team. Outpatient clinics are mostly phone clinics currently, but training and clinics may be located at other EKHUFT sites.
