Job Description:
Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineer
A Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineer opportunity with a leading Engineering Consultancy. This role will allow you to work on station refurbishments, building services projects, and water-connected electronics.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in mechanical and electrical systems design, with experience in transportation and infrastructure projects. The role will involve reporting directly to the CRE and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality engineering solutions. You will receive tailored training to develop your technical skills, gain hands-on experience, and work towards achieving your Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
The role offers great potential for career growth, with opportunities to take on more responsibility and move into more senior positions as you gain experience.
The key responsibilities for this Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineer are:
* Assist in the creation and refinement of mechanical and electrical systems designs for projects, ensuring compliance with client specifications, project objectives, and relevant industry standards.
* Provide technical support during the design phase and throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring solutions meet performance and safety requirements.
* Work with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure designs meet project goals. Communicate technical aspects clearly and provide support as needed.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary project team, ensuring smooth coordination of designs with other engineering disciplines (e.g., civil, structural).
* Ensure all designs are compliant with industry regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental requirements. Conduct quality checks on design documents and deliverables.
* Participate in design reviews and produce detailed design reports, specifications, and calculations. Document project progress and highlight any issues or risks to the CRE.
* Occasionally visit sites to ensure that designs are being implemented correctly and provide technical guidance where necessary.
* Assist in the management of project schedules, ensuring design milestones are met on time and within budget. Support the CRE in monitoring project progress and mitigating risks.
* Stay updated with the latest design software, industry trends, and best practices. As a more senior member of the team, provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and share knowledge to help them grow.
Experience/skills required for this Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineer role are:
* 2+ years of experience in mechanical and electrical design, preferably in building services, station refurbishments, or infrastructure projects. Experience in water-connected electronics is a plus.
* Familiarity with project management processes, including timeline tracking, budget management, and risk assessments.
* Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
* Chartered Engineer status or keen to become Chartered.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to clients and stakeholders.
* Ability to troubleshoot and resolve design challenges in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D), MicroStation, and ProjectWise and other software for M&E design.
* Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
* Ability to develop creative solutions for complex engineering challenges, especially in the context of station refurbishments, building services, and water-connected electronics.
