The Engineering Assistant works as part of a multi-disciplinary team of maintenance personnel. The Engineering Assistant is responsible for assisting in a range of maintenance and repairs to all harbours, piers, vessels and associated plant and equipment operated by Marine and Air Operations. In particular the loading jetties on the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal (including working in hazardous areas), aids to navigation in and around the Port of Sullom Voe, overhaul and maintenance of plant whilst vessels are of service, at annual refits and on temporary layup, and other Council ports as necessary. The Engineering Assistant Nav Aids will also be required to work unsupervised, with remote access to management.
Specific tasks of the Engineering Assistant include:
* To assist in maintenance, and repair or replacement of plant and equipment in hazardous areas on the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal loading jetties, or while vessels are at refit or out of service
* To conduct general maintenance and upkeep of Aids to Navigation, including fault finding, and responding to breakdowns at short notice. This will include basic electrical maintenance, including working on low voltage supplies, lamps and batteries etc. Isolation of 240 volt supplies will be necessary to allow the work to be carried out. This will also be required when servicing street lighting at piers and harbours etc;
* To undertake general maintenance and upkeep of harbour vessels, plant, buildings, linkspans, ferry terminals and equipment associated with the safe operation of Marine and Air Operations;
* To work alongside skilled personnel or independently as required;

* Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,859 per annum (pro rata) and contracted overtime payment.
* Permanent Full Time post for 42.0 Hours per Week (37 hours and 5 hours contracted overtime), 52.18 weeks per year
