Key tasks include:
1. Lead and set direction for Estyn’s future work as part of our senior leadership team, and ensure that our organisational development and culture supports this.
2. Develop and deliver inspection frameworks, guidance and practice across the sectors you are responsible for to ensure continuous improvement in performance and inspection practice.
3. Ensure the delivery of high-quality cyclical inspection programmes and thematic reviews.
4. Edit, corroborate and quality assure inspection and thematic reports.
5. Develop strong relationships with our key partners across the education system.
6. Lead, advise, inform and influence policy discussions with Medr and the Welsh Government.
7. Identify and oversee the development of activities to build capacity and promote best practice in the education system in Wales.
8. Line manage and develop a group of inspectors.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
It’s essential that you:
1. Have management or specialist experience and expertise in one or more fields of education or training that we inspect.
2. Understand the Welsh Government and Medr’s strategies, policies, plans and initiatives for education and training in Wales and keep up to date with new developments.
3. Evidence a desire to improve education and training in Wales and an understanding of our key role in this mission.
4. Are aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection.
5. Demonstrate excellent communication skills, engaging colleagues, policy-makers and stakeholders constructively in professional dialogue.
6. Have strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to develop positive collaborative working relationships with colleagues at all levels.
7. Have effective editing skills to ensure the delivery of high-quality inspection and thematic reports.
8. Have experience of the successful application of quality assurance and improvement approaches and/or inspection in practice.
9. Manage or oversee the management of resources and projects to ensure effective service delivery.
10. Provide leadership and direction to staff working in dispersed locations.
11. Make sound judgements and reliable decisions in a variety of demanding and time-pressured situations.
12. Analyse and interpret management and other information and data to inform planning, inspection, reporting and advice.
It is desirable that you have Welsh language skills (spoken and written).
