The Senior Engineer, supported by the Head of Technical, Technical Manager and Administrator, will play a key leading role in projects from providing engineering support at planning stage, through detailed design and site works and eventually site close.
The Senior Engineer will support the Head of Technical and Technical Manager to maintain an overview of all ‘Engineering’ aspects of the development.
Main Accountabilities
* Aid the Technical Director, Head of Technical and Technical Manager in the production of the technical reports and associated fee budgets for new sites and clearly communicate advice on engineering related matters and offer innovative and cost-effective solutions to problems as they arise.
* Liaise with the Land and Planning Departments over site specific problems raised during land acquisition and organise Consultants to carry out work on behalf of the Land and Planning Departments as necessary.
* Act as lead point of contact for the Engineering department throughout the life of multiple projects.
* Provide the Head of Technical and Technical Manager with updates to the project program, fee schedule and other relevant checklists to monitor and achieve targets set in the Key Date Schedule, ensuring that complete drawing packages are issued on time.
* Assist the Technical Manager with production and monitoring of technical programmes in conjunction with the Head of Technical for each site.
* Assist with the production of consultant ‘scope of works’ documents, tenders, review and approve recommendations for preferred consultants ahead of formal appointments.
* Oversee the production and value engineering of all engineering information.
* Take an active role in project team and handover meetings, prior to ‘Construction Handover’. Provide updates, as required, to the technical representative attending monthly site meetings.
* Oversee and support applications such as service capacity assessments, highways, drainage, and services legal agreements, NHBC conditions. Request input from relevant teams as/if required.
* Manage and negotiate S38, 278, S185, S98, 104 and S106 legal agreements (etc) and liaise with the relevant approving bodies as required.
* Support the Development team with statutory service information (existing and proposed), new service connection proposals, statutory service diversions, street lighting design and connections.
* Maintain a full understanding of Civils design, with the skills and knowledge to challenge elements of the design offered by the consultant team, to ensure practical, buildable, and cost-effective solutions.
* Work with Geo-technical consultants, analysing their reports and advising on ground conditions, foundation solutions and remediation strategies to deal with ground contamination.
* Provide monthly update report to the Head of Technical in relation to engineering budgets/fee expenditure and project progress.
* Ensure sites are fully ‘closed out’ at the end of projects and bond requirements are planned for release.
* Manage Customer Care queries when assigned by the Head of Technical for action ensuring the ‘fix in 30’ is achieved.
* Take an active role in the development of technical staff and act as a ‘mentor’ for more junior team members as/if required.
About You
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* HNC/HND or Degree in a construction related course with a background in engineering or architecture, or relevant comparable experience in an equivalent role.
* Detailed knowledge of the latest National and Local Technical and Environmental standards.
* Preferably having an existing relationship with local engineers in the highways departments and drainage authorities.
* Acts on own initiative and able to quickly adapt to new situations/circumstances.
* Extremely organised and confident with the ability to plan own workload.
* Excellent communication, planning, listening, and organising skills.
* Keen interest in all engineering aspects of housebuilding.
* Effective at building relationships both internally and externally.
* Computer literate, experienced with AutoCAD, Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel.
* Experience of working in a similar role on a variety of projects.
