Interim Project Engineer Highway Maintenance

Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 17:00
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 3 months
City: NEWBURY
As a Project Engineer in Highway Maintenance, you’ll oversee and deliver highway maintenance and improvement projects in West Berkshire. You’ll assess and address defects in the highway network, conduct inspections, and manage contractors to ensure all work meets quality and safety standards. Your role includes coordinating repairs, managing resources, and providing technical advice, all while ensuring compliance with regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assess and identify defects in the highway network, prioritizing repairs.
* Conduct regular inspections of roads and footways to ensure maintenance standards.
* Manage contractors, ensuring work meets quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
* Oversee the removal of highway nuisances and obstructions.
* Handle correspondence related to highway maintenance issues.
* Ensure all projects comply with health and safety policies and regulations.
* Manage resources effectively to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Key Requirements:
* BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering or equivalent and have a minimum of 3 years experience in highway maintenance or show that you are on a recognised training programme and close to achieving one of this qualification.
* Formal Project Management qualification.
* Full valid UK driving license.
* Good working knowledge of Highways Act 1980, NRSWA and other relevant legislation.
* Working knowledge of Construction, Design Regulations (CDM) 2017.
* Experience in the delivery of highway and transport services.
* Proven experience in delivering highway maintenance and improvement projects.
* Experience in managing contractors and ensuring work quality and safety.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders.
* Strong project management skills, including resource and time management.
