Role: Machine Operator
Location: Newport
Salary: £12.50 per hour
Full time: Mon – Thurs 08.00 – 16.30 Fri 07.00 – 12.00
Job Description:
To set up & operate production machines/equipment/processes in a safe, efficient & effective manner with Engineering support. Ensuring the product produced is to the set quality standard & manufactured at the set production rate.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
1. Run a range of production machines/processes to produce products to the quality standards required & achieve output standards set
2. Apply best practice standards in all areas of H&S, quality produced, standard operating procedures (SOPs) & data recording
3. Demonstrate good housekeeping
4. Ensure PPE is maintained & used as prescribed
5. Create & maintain accurate records relating to machine outputs & downtime. Ensure all paperwork including start-up check sheets is completed daily
6. Actively support Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) & all assigned Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) tasks
7. Assist with Risk Assessments & all safety improvement activities
8. Actively participate in all continuous improvement activities/initiatives & Kaizen events. Proactively identify & make recommendations for improvements
9. Train other operators as required.
10. Share experience, best practices, and relay all relevant knowledge & information with colleagues
11. Carry out hand assembly work & general duties as required
12. Any other duties as required by the Production Manager
Qualifications - Minimum:
1. Good standard of Education
2. Good standard of written English & Math
3. Good communication skills & attitude
4. Understand & use measuring equipment – ruler, scales etc.
Qualification – Desirable:
1. Time-served machine operator
2. Knowledge/experience of mechanical/electrical PLC & Pneumatic systems
3. Experience in lean manufacturing / continuous improvement techniques & tools (5S, Kaizen, etc.)
4. Machine setting experience
5. Experience of statistical process control (SPC)
6. Experience in a manufacturing environment
7. Broad knowledge of equipment types: packaging & processing
8. Awareness of modern technology
9. Team player
10. Flexible – able to work shifts & cover overtime when required
11. Competent & self-motivated
Other Skills/Abilities Desirable:
1. Awareness & experience of modern improvement tools & techniques
2. Data handling / PC skills
3. Able to work under pressure to achieve tight delivery schedules
