1. Provide professional leadership to help our young people achieve and thrive in a foster care and supported lodgings environment, where they are provided with the highest quality care.
What does success look like?
Managing Self
2. Support the Head of Service to provide a responsive and effective Fostering and Continuing Care service, which meets the changing demands of our carers and young people.
3. Supporting staff to provide high quality and robust Form F Assessments for prospective foster carers and assessments of supported care carers, which leads to approval of competent and professional carers at panel.
4. Actively engage in own lifelong learning by keeping abreast of best practice, legislation and policy guidance within the services we provide.
5. Supporting staff to provide a tailored and individualised support package to the carers whilst maintaining records and embedding best practice.
6. Providing monitoring information to external agencies.
7. Embedding the organisation's culture, policies and procedures in to working practices.
Managing Relationships
8. Supporting staff to build relationships with carers by providing emotional and practical support, professional supervision, building confidence and resilience, and enabling carers to exhibit best practice in their role. (Leadership skills)
9. Liaise with placing Local Authorities and take responsibility for referrals and for allocating work to the team.
10. Participate in the recruitment and training of potential carers.
11. Developing positive relationships with community partners, continuing to improve the reputation of the organisation
Leadership Skills
12. Responsible for the professional supervision and line management of staff within the operational service area.
13. Support the professional development of the staff in the team.
14. Operational Skills
15. Commitment to continuous improvement in own practice and the wider organisation by providing more opportunities for carers and young people. (Leadership skills)
16. Contribute to the development and quality assurance of the Fostering Panel.
17. Organise and chair regular team meetings to ensure the flow of information.
18. Organise the Duty rota.
19. Participate in the on call system to provide a 24-hour professional support system to our carers and young people.

20. Registered with SSSC as a Social Worker
21. Car driver

Practical Experience
22. Considerable post qualifying experience of working across child care services including foster care
23. Significant involvement in partnership working
24. Experience of supporting vulnerable individuals
25. Experience of undertaking assessments
26. Experience of facilitating training
Qualification(s)
27. DipSW, CQSW, Degree or Msc in Social Work
Knowledge and Skills
28. Good working knowledge of relevant legislation and care standards
29. Significant knowledge of fostering and continuing care services
30. Excellent leadership skills
31. Ability to evaluate Social Work assessments and facilitate the resolution of practice issues
32. Ability to chair meetings with employees, young people and external agencies
33. Ability to communicate effectively
34. Excellent recording and reporting skills
35. Ability to work flexibly and prioritise workloads
36. Ability to build relationships with key partners
37. Knowledge of Child and Adult Protection issues
38. Knowledge of GIRFEC and the SHANARRI wellbeing outcomes
