Mō te tūnga | About the Role
Our Ranga Hauora service at Burwood Hospital / Te Whare Toa Takitini recognises the significance of ensuring patients/tangata whaiora feel at ease when receiving healthcare both in a hospital setting and out in the community. Our role is pivotal in providing support to the service, with the opportunity to develop your skills toward a clinical position supporting patients and their whanau throughout their healthcare journey. Our service also enables staff to access the support and resources available to ensure we meet the cultural needs of our patients. This is a permanent part time opportunity working 20hrs per week. The role will be based primarily at Burwood Hospital, with the requirement to conduct community visits for patients post-discharge.
Ko wai koe | About You
In this role, you will be responsible for:
* Working with and for Māori tūroro and their whanau to ensure their cultural needs are met during their healthcare journey;
* Providing cultural support and assist the care teams to co-ordinate visits to korero, manaaki and tautoko all Māori inpatients;
* Work in co-operation with OPH&R staff using cultural knowledge and experience to ensure Māori receive support throughout their care journey;
* Be involved in service development by commenting, proposing changes within the section, department, service, directorate or the whole organisation, including support to staff to participate in and contribute to quality improvement activities;
* Working collaboratively with all Burwood Hospital staff to support the use of Māori models to achieve – Whanau Ora –;
* Liaising with external entities such as case managers and external healthcare providers;
* Adhering to guidelines of Cultural Safety and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
* Experience in health care;
* A relevant tertiary qualification in Hauora Māori and/or experience in Māori health service delivery is highly desired;
* Computer skills are essential, excellent written and verbal communication skills;
* A current driver’s license (a minimum of a restricted license is essential);
* Strong knowledge of tikanga, kaupapa Māori;
* Whakawhanaungatanga (ability to forge and foster relationships);
* Whakamanaakitanga (ability to treat others with respect, encouragement and support);
* Whakakotahitanga (ability to work in your role and actively participate and align this to our organisational values and goals);
* Highly motivated and able to multi-task;
* Demonstrates a high level of personal discipline and professionalism.
