Description of role:
Yourgene Health, part of the Novacyt Group, is recruiting for a Laboratory Technician within our infectious disease team based at Manchester Science Park. The Laboratory Technician will perform laboratory activities in the design and development of our Infectious Disease product range under ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 quality systems, as well as performing general laboratory maintenance activities.
Overall responsibility:
The Laboratory Technician will work with Scientists to ensure experimental work is well planned and executed to a high-quality level in a timely fashion. They will work with a variety of molecular biology techniques and assist in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory.
Key areas of responsibility:
* Performance of laboratory work to a high standard with very good attention to detail, following laboratory SOPs
* Accurate documentation of laboratory work
* Updates to laboratory SOPs as directed by supervisor(s)
* Ensure own work meets quality requirements, including compliance to SOPs, documentation using electronic lab books, study plans, study reports, and integrity of data
* General lab maintenance and upkeep including maintenance of equipment, stock control, and goods receipt within the Quality Management System
* Laboratory cleaning
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
* A degree in a life science subject such as molecular biology, biochemistry, or genetics
* Preferably hands-on experience and a basic understanding of laboratory techniques, especially those used in Molecular Biology. Experience in any of the following areas of Molecular Biology is desirable: PCR, qPCR, DNA Sequencing, DNA/RNA Extraction
* Experience of using bioinformatics tools as part of assay design would be a bonus
* Ability to learn quickly during training and then perform tasks independently
* Enthusiasm, drive, thoroughness, diligence, and a willingness to take personal responsibility to ensure that projects are successful
* Good organisational skills
