Job overview
This appointment is in Anaesthesia at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust based at Grantham Hospital, but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations or outreach district general hospital clinics. The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post.
Main duties of the job
Appointees will have duties providing anaesthesia for a range of surgical specialities, and be expected to provide out of hours service to the Critical Care Unit including transferring critically ill patients to other hospitals. The appointee will also be expected, in conjunction with his / her colleagues, to take part in a comprehensive General Anaesthetic service at Grantham Hospital and provide, on a reciprocal basis, cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
He/she will be responsible to the Lead Clinician in Anaesthesia.
He/she will be expected to be involved in the education of nursing and midwifery staff, Operating Department Practitioners and other allied clinical professions as appropriate.
He/she will be required to play an active part in the robust clinical audit programme in operation within the Department, attending Clinical Audit meetings and taking part in regional and national audits. He/she will be required to report all critical incidents and attend and support the Departmental Critical Incident Report, Morbidity & Mortality and Anaesthetic Departmental Team meetings.
The appointee will have continuing responsibility for patients in his / her care and for the proper functioning of the department.
Person specification
* 2 years continuous recent experience of anaesthesia
* Experience and competency in transfer of critically ill patient
Qualifications
* ALS
* MB BS or equivalent
* Currently accredited Life Support provider one or more of ALS/ATLS
Evidence of Particular: - Knowledge - Skills - Aptitudes
* Good written and verbal English language skills and excellent general communication skills
* Demonstrate 6 months relevant and recent experience in intensive care medicine
* Ability to recognise limitations of knowledge and experience
* Ability to organise own learning and time initiative
