We’re an award-winning speciality coffee roastery from Brighton - winning Great Taste Awards, Great British Food Gold and recently being shortlisted for Sussex Business of the Year. We explore coffees and create flavours that can be enjoyed and celebrated by everyone. We’ve been roasting coffee since 2006 and proudly sell our coffee in our own cafes, online and via our wholesale partners.
We are entering a high growth period and looking for a Head of Roastery Operations who has experience of Coffee Operations and being part of a fast paced growing business. As the Head of Roastery Operations you will lead the day-to-day operations, coordinating all activities within the Roastery, from receiving shipments, maintaining and upgrading equipment to supervising employees and handling customer requests, ensuring efficient and effective operations of the business.
Responsibilities:
* Manage the operational growth of the business. Including the recommendation and introduction of new equipment and machinery at the right time to support business development.
* IT system review and ongoing management to ensure effective process and reporting
* Maintaining stock inventory and ordering systems
* Overseeing the company HACCP documentation – conducting reviews, inspections and ongoing management of processes
* Overseeing logistics of receiving, warehousing and dispatch operations
* Working with logistics partners to ensure smooth and efficient deliveries
* Manage the Roastery budget ensuring costs are achieved
* Monitoring supplier costs on a regular basis, tendering and making changes where relevant – including products, cleaning materials and packaging
* Inspecting and approving the quality and quantity of goods or equipment received and shipped out
* Enforcing health standards, safety and security procedures – on a daily and weekly basis
* Overseeing the roastery compliance schedule, ensuring all is up to date and in order
* Overseeing the maintenance and reliability of the machinery used in the warehouse
* Managing staff, building teams, training employees and monitoring production performance
* Communicating and interacting with clients, vendors, suppliers and customers
* Communicating and reporting to the Executive Management on a regular basis
* Working closely with the Senior Roaster to ensure the smooth running of the Roastery, quality of the product and accurate fulfilment
* Working with the Senior Roaster on Green coffee inventory, run rates and drawdown
* Working with the Head of Sales to communicate with customers
* Work with management to produce annual budgets
Key skills & Experience:
* Coffee operations experience
* A track record of achieving compliance in Health & Safety and food standards
* A strong understanding of HACCP principles – holding HACCP Level 3 or equivalent
* Business, budget, finance and project management skills
* IT and system management
* Customer service aptitude
