Sustainable herbivore management is crucial for achieving Scottish Government targets on carbon capture, habitat improvement, and timber production. By managing deer densities and their impacts, FLS can protect planting, natural regeneration, and diverse habitats. This role will help East Region contribute significantly to the government's Green Recovery, Climate Change, and Biodiversity goals.
This post holder will lead a team of Wildlife Rangers and support the Area Wildlife Manager in achieving the region's cull targets and venison sales. Responsibilities include:
1. Interpreting cull data
2. Browsing impact reports
3. Deer density assessments
4. Population modelling to manage current and future culls
To be successful in this role you will need Deer Management Qualifications level 1 & 2 and up to date knowledge and experience of managing woodland deer.
