Purpose
Ensuring all quality aspects are adequately managed by providing qualified resources, systems, knowledge, and experience, our Supply Quality Management team is responsible for electrical, mechanical, testing, and structural field quality control within Offshore Wind projects.
Meeting quality and safety requirements, this team is composed of specialists within Coating, Corrosion Protection, Materials, Welding, Testing, Cable, and Electrical Systems.
Responsibilities
The Quality of Supplies Engineer (QSE) is thorough and observant with a high focus on detail. As QSE, you must fully understand the requirements for our assets and have a sense of responsibility to ensure these requirements are followed with our potential and existing suppliers, even during times when product quality deviations occur.
Closely working with Health & Safety Subject Matter Experts (SME), Wind Turbine Generator (WTG), Foundations (FOU), Offshore Substation (OSS), and Safety Engineering teams, you will ensure safety engineering and quality requirements are followed, such as product conformity, certification requirements, and product safety.
The QSE will head up the quality control discipline throughout all welding activities and ideally support coating activities for all structures within Offshore Wind Projects construction so that all assets’ fabrication meets quality and safety requirements.
The QSE will also be responsible for:
1. Providing guidance to the Project/Package Quality Manager, ensuring appropriate numbers and qualified resources are deployed into each applicable site.
2. Supporting the Quality of Supplies team on welding quality assurance, ensuring supply chain companies' welding procedures comply with relevant standards and follow good industrial practices.
3. Reviewing welding procedures, reports, and inspection personnel qualifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
4. Coaching and supervising ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) on-site Inspectors in topics related to welding.
5. Supporting Project/Package Quality Manager in the investigations of incidents related to welding and coating activities.
6. Ensuring applicable suppliers develop and implement best practices that emphasise defect prevention and continuous improvements.
What you’ll bring
Educated to BSc/B.Eng or Master’s in Mechanical, Structural, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering or possessing certification in International/European Welding Engineering IWE, EWE, IWT, IWS, or equivalent. Ideally, the QSE will possess specialised training in welding Inspection.
It is highly desirable to have FROSIO or NACE Coating Inspector certification. Quality Auditor certifications through a quality body such as European Organisation for Quality (EOQ) are also preferable.
The QSE will hold experience within Management, Quality Assurance, or Project Management and from seminars at statutory institutions which comprised of subjects in Technical/Machine Safety or product liability.
With proven experience working within QA/QC functions, including inspection, coordination, and supervision in industrial construction projects for the Offshore Wind, Oil & Gas and/or Power industries, the QSE will hold experience in developing and reviewing Fabrication Inspection plans, Welding Manuals, and Welding Programmes.
Experience within QA/QC coating activities for steel structures is highly preferable, as is coordination experience gained within a large infrastructure project.
Skilled using database systems such as Action Tracker / Microsoft Access and administrating different documentation is preferable.
Knowledgeable with quality tools, techniques, and ISO 9001 framework, the QSE will have in-depth awareness of differences between quality assurance, quality control, quality improvement, and quality planning.
Additionally, the QSE will have:
* Sound understanding of process-oriented quality management systems.
* Good understanding of European and American steel structure fabrication standards focused on welding quality requirements.
* An understanding of Foundations and Offshore Substation fabrication, in general, of all types of steel structures.
* Basic understanding of other elements of Offshore Wind projects such as WTG and Cables.
* Competency in conducting 1st and 2nd party audits.
* Understanding Product Engineering processes and Product Lifecycle of heavy plant machinery and equipment.
* Can interpret product requirement specifications and translate those into quality control regime with set quality criteria.
* Possesses good knowledge and experience in supplier quality management and knows procurement processes.
* Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken). Spanish or other languages (French/German) would be beneficial.
* Must be able to travel to contractor sites for Audits and Inspections.
