About the Role:
St. Louis High School is seeking a talented Deputy Head Academic to join our leadership team in the heart of Milan. This role focuses on academic leadership, curriculum development, and student achievement, ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Head of Department or senior leader with a strong background in the British National Curriculum. They will have a proven track record of raising academic standards, a passion for teaching and learning, and the ability to support and develop staff.
This role requires an innovative and strategic thinker who can inspire both students and colleagues, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to the wider development of the school. Key Responsibilities:
Academic Leadership:
* Develop and implement the school's academic vision with the Executive Principal and SMT.
* Lead the academic direction of the school in the Head of School's absence.
* Set and maintain high academic standards aligned with the school's ethos.
* Oversee curriculum development, academic policies, and improvement plans.
* Use data to monitor academic progress, set goals, and plan future improvements.
* Support and develop Heads of Department, fostering a culture of academic excellence and collaboration.
* Provide professional development and guidance to staff to improve teaching quality.
* Play a key role in recruitment, retention, and performance management, ensuring high-quality teaching across all subjects.
Teaching and Learning:
* Deliver teaching duties as a role model for excellence, including curriculum planning and support for staff.
* Lead academic interventions, support planning, and mentor less experienced staff.
Stakeholder Engagement and Administration:
* Communicate academic targets and student progress to parents and carers effectively.
* Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and the community to support academic goals.
* Monitor teaching quality, student outcomes, and curriculum standards.
* Manage timetabling, and academic organization in collaboration with Deputy Head Pastoral.
* Assist in staff recruitment, performance management, and resource planning.
Behavioral Standards and Enrichment:
* With the Deputy Head Pastoral, maintain high standards of student behavior and support staff in fostering discipline.
* Lead academic enrichment activities, after-school support programs, and community initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have:
* A Bachelor’s Degree (essential) and Qualified Teacher Status (essential).
* Proven leadership experience as a Head of Department or senior academic leader in an excellent school.
* Deep understanding of the British National Curriculum, with a track record of raising student achievement.
* Experience in leading professional development and supporting teacher growth.
* Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data-driven insights to improve teaching and learning.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire staff and students alike.
* A commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing .
Desirable:
* Experience with IB programmes (a plus, given our IB integration).
* Italian language skills (advantageous but not essential).
