North Cumbria Integrated Trust is looking to employ a Trust Doctor in General Surgery. The Registrar will work attached to each of the sub specialties in rotation but is responsible to all the Consultants in Surgery.
The Trust Registrar will be assisted by the other middle grade doctors. The on call rota will be a 1 in 10 full shift with prospective cover.
The registrars will attend OPD, operating theatre and endoscopy sessions and the department has a good track record in training. There are established training lists in endoscopy and the operation theatre.
The registrar will have a named educational supervisor and training needs and resources are tailored to the individual personal development plans. The registrar is expected to participate in the weekly journal club/ seminar sessions and actively participate in audit. Teaching and supervision of the F1 doctors is essential and expected.
In the course of his/her work the jobholder liaises with nursing, professional and technical, social work and administrative staff.
Main duties of the job
The trust Registrar Doctor will be responsible for the day-to-day care of all patients under the General Surgery Consultants. The programme of training for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her particular needs and stage of training.
The Trust Doctor Registrar will provide cover on a Full Shift Rota, prospective cover of STR colleagues leave. They can usually expect to provide supervision and support for a Foundation Doctor on call.
The Registrar will be expected to play a full and active role in the post-graduate programme including departmental meetings, multidisciplinary meetings and junior teaching.
There will also be opportunities for teaching medical students, overseas clinical attachment doctors and nurses on an occasional basis.

Person Specification
Essential
* Education and Qualifications: Full Registration with the General Medical Council. MB ChB or equivalent registerable qualification. Eligible for Full registration with the General Medical Council.
* Able to demonstrate appropriate experience in the management of General Surgery.
* Experience and Knowledge: Interest in research opportunities. Previous involvement in Audit projects. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development. Working knowledge of common conditions met in the management of General Surgery in a district general hospital. Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff.
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload and delegate responsibilities.
Desirable
* MRCP or equivalent
* Evidence of Research & Publications
* Experience of teaching medical students and postgraduate doctors in training and multi-disciplinary teams.
