Job Purpose At Cadent we are leading the way in the development and execution of one of the UK’s most advanced hydrogen pipeline networks at scale to support Industry and Clean Electricity Generation in the North West of the UK. We are now looking to expand the Project Team with an Engineering Manager to deliver Detailed Engineering and management of ongoing engineering requirements through the Construction and into the Commission and Start up Stage.This project is just one of 4 large scale schemes across our networks and the start of an exciting career at Cadent. Delivering in-Project Engineering including the development and execution of the engineering for the HyNet Project which will support the wider hydrogen portfolio of projects and achieving Cadent’s objective of operating hydrogen infrastructure to support decarbonisation of the UK. This role delivers the Project’s Engineering to achieve a safe and efficient first of a kind at scale hydrogen pipeline network in the North West as part of the Investment and Future Energy function. The role will be a central point for collaboration and delivery with technical suppliers, industry groups, internal engineering stakeholders, the Project team and the selected Engineering Procurement, Construction and Commissioning Contractors. The successful person must lead a culture of continuous improvement, optimising processes and ensuring value is understood for all of the activities they undertake. The role will develop the in-Project multi-disciplinary engineering requirements and work with the independent Engineering Technical Authority within Cadent to formalise these within this Project and the wider portfolio. The role will then be central to the procurement, delivery, and assurance against these with the selected supply chain to ensure the delivery of a safe, reliable, and sustainable hydrogen pipeline network. Please note that this position will be hybrid, allowing work from home but moving to a co-located office in the North West.Key Responsibilities • The delivery of the Project’s engineering scope to the agreed policies, processes, and standards for transporting hydrogen through the HyNet pipeline network • Promote safe design of assets, following the company’s specifications and standards, identify weaknesses or oversights and implement plans to close gaps • Develop and deliver against the Engineering Management and Assurance plans for the Project • Prepare documents (for your area of responsibility) in line with project governance requirements • Provide regular written and verbal updates on the status of projects to the Project Director and stakeholders. Also work collaboratively with the Project team to close out requirements from project governance reviews • Be responsible for the development of the engineering scope of the key contracts to be procured including the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning Contractors • Be responsible to review and consolidate engineering SME review of Detailed design documents, Supplier documents and EPCC documents issued for client review • Working with others in the Project’s management team to co-ordinate the Engineering deliverables with the delivery Contractors and Consultants including the commercial, schedule and risk aspects of delivery • Working with others to manage technical risk through all stages of the Project’s lifecycle including mitigation measures and the delivery of them through the supply chain or wider technical expertise • Support the selection, qualification, procurement, and delivery of the long lead items required for the hydrogen pipeline network • Technical support to the Development Consent Order during examination • Lead Process Safety compliance to deliver the Formal Process Safety Assessments, Technical Safety and Functional Safety for the Project • Be aware of the requirements under CDM 2015 and the deliverables of the Principal Designer for the Project. Also provide technical support to other hydrogen projects within Cadent to support efficient and systematic engineering execution leading to best outcomes for the business • Ensure the engineering decisions made during detailed design are aligned with the Operations and Maintenance requirements for safe commissioning and operation Skills and Experience Ability to make decisions based on sound technical judgement. Understand project delivery requirements, governance, and control to deliver a safe, efficient, and reliable network within the boundaries of the Projects scope, budget, schedule, and quality. Essential • Chartered Engineer status • Engineering experience working within gas transmission, oil and gas or petrochemical environment, managing teams and a commitment to process safety principles and practice. • Specific knowledge of UK or international pipeline design and material standards (IGEM, GIS, API, ASME, ISO, ASTM) • Experience in the commercial and contract management of suppliers • Project delivery/team experience in pipelines and/or process plants • Experience in leading multidiscipline teams/consultants as engineering manager or similar • Experience in operational support, front-end loading, construction and/or commissioning phases of process system and pipeline projects Desirable • Working knowledge of the UK Gas Industry and Safety Regulations • Understanding of CDM 2015 • Specific knowledge of UK gas distribution network (GDN) design, specification, and engineering standards • Experience in hydrogen or sour gas process or pipeline systems Cadent Gas Ltd
