At Oakhill Secure Training Centre, we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.
We are looking for a Use of Force Advisor to join our team at Oakhill Secure Training Centre to provide professional advice, guidance, reviews, and support to operational and line management around reducing the instances and improving the quality of any use of force incidents within the establishment.
Some of the key responsibilities are:
* To review and lead on the physical restraint in terms of deployment techniques legally used for use of force and implement an action plan to enable the establishment to make improvements.
* Develop, review and update the establishment's Use of Force strategies and ensure that necessary links with appropriate partners are built and maintained.
* Lead and monitor the application and Use of Force in practice, identifying and addressing training needs, processes (i.e., debriefing, data collection), and governance arrangements (i.e., Use of Force committee).
* Review incident management processes to inform learning and development of front line staff, first line managers, and middle managers.
* Review all Use of Force paperwork at the establishment to ensure the appropriate details are included and that the reports are consistent with BWVC and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage where available.
* Initiate and maintain links with external agencies on all relevant issues to promote and make better provision for safer custody within the establishment.
* Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, including the reporting of accidents and near misses in a timely manner and the application of safe systems of work for the role.
* Support delivery of the local Behaviour Management Strategy.
* Maintain oversight and audit and assurance process for incident packs.
