Job Profile Summary: The Healthcare Assistant will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide safe, effective, efficient care for patients and relatives, while delivering key performance targets including assurance that the professional nursing practice and delivery of care is aligned to the Cleveland Clinic London mission and values. The Healthcare Assistant will primarily be involved in assisting nursing, medical and allied health Caregivers in the Cath/EP/IR Labs. They will provide direct care, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients and always working in a manner that promotes privacy and dignity. The post holder will build and maintain excellent working relationships with other departments to ensure a seamless service for our patients. Key Responsibilities Main Duties and Responsibilities Provide high quality patient care to patients under the supervision of trained nursing Caregivers. Develop competence in carrying out basic patient observations (i.e. vital signs) and recording the results. Notify nursing Caregiver of changes/concerns in patients’ condition. Recognise own limitations and request assistance as necessary. Assist the nursing team and the procurement team with re-stocking the Cath/EP/IR Labs. Conversant with the patient electronic health record system (EPIC) and Wavemark for capturing procurement supplies and charges. Transport specimens to the correct location as efficiently as possible. Respond to pager requests from the department in an appropriate and timely manner to provide a comprehensive and efficient service. Assist with the safe transfer of patients to and from the department using the correct moving and handling techniques. Be responsible for checking the day- to- day maintenance of all patient trolleys, ensuring they are fully equipped with oxygen and suction facilities and are safe for patient use. Ensure any faults identified are reported immediately and appropriate actions taken. Be aware of Universal Precautions, basic Infection Control Procedures and Sharps Safety Procedures. Safely dispose of clinical waste, linen and sharps in accordance with Health and Safety and Infection Control policy. Liaise with environmental services (EVS) as required ensuring linen supplies are topped up in the department. Assist with the cleaning of the Labs between cases and preparation of cleaning solution (with appropriate training and sign off). Ensure all equipment (including patient trolley) is cleaned before and after use, following infection control policy. Respond to emergency and cardiac arrests calls immediately, offering assistance and obtaining equipment as requested. Compliance and Governance Maintain patient confidentiality, privacy and dignity at all times. Correctly dispose of confidential waste in accordance with the hospital’s information governance policy. Ensure incidents and near misses are reported and escalated to the department manager or nurse in charge. Have basic knowledge/understanding of Radiation Protection and local rules ensuring these are followed for the protection of self, patients, visitors and Caregivers. Comply with radiation signs in the department. Will be familiar with the Hospital/department fire escalation plan, moving and handling, infection control and health and safety policies/procedures. Be aware of fire alarm testing, checking that fire doors and exists are free from clutter, automatic doors/windows are closed. Report any noticeable faults with doors/windows or extinguishers immediately to the estates team, department manager or nurse in-charge. Communication Communicate effectively with patients, Caregivers and visitors. Attend/participate in departmental huddles and team meetings. Work as an active member of the Cath Lab team and maintain good working relationships across all departments. Training and Development Attend all mandatory training courses and complete all e-learning modules. Attend departmental training sessions. Participate in performance review/appraisals. About You Education and Certifications: NVQ level 3 or higher or equivalent Care Certificate. Basic Life Support Competencies (Complexity of Work): Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Work Experience: Essential: Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant working in a hospital setting. Desirable Experience working in Cath/IR lab or theatre area. Competent in /have had exposure to the use of electronic health record system such as EPIC. Physical Requirements: Moving patients from chair to trolley/bed and from trolley/bed to X-ray table. Manoeuvring wheelchairs and patient trolleys/bed. Exposure to bodily fluids and secretions. Exposure to patients with infections. Regular use of display screen equipment (DSE). Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
