About Us
MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to harm the UK, its people, and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing, and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners, including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt these threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and guidance to government, businesses and other organisations about how to keep themselves safe. A role in MI5 means you’ll do unique and challenging work in a supportive and encouraging environment, making a real difference to UK national security.
The Role
At MI5 we work hard to keep our country safe, and it’s equally important that we protect our people, places, and property. When you join us as a Building Manager, you’ll help us do just that – from one, or several locations in the London area. Our Estate team are responsible for managing a collection of properties and delivering high quality building services, facilities management, support services, projects and workplace change across a wide variety of building types. It’s all about keeping us operational so we can maintain our critical front-line business function.
This role is essential to our ability to deliver an excellent user experience for our customers. As a Building Manager you’ll shape and evolve the role, driving quality and improvement, implementing and managing change, seeking the best resolution. You’ll monitor and control the operation of plant and systems within the building effectively, with minimal disruption and downtime. This includes electrical distribution, mechanical systems, security equipment, building management systems and UPS systems.
You’ll continually identify areas of improvement and take ownership of problems, finding solutions and delivering high-quality outcomes, while always ensuring regulatory and health and safety compliance. Using your communication and planning skills, you’ll control finances for all maintenance works, whilst always seeking the best value for money, ensuring our estate strategy is aligned with the business.
About You
We’re looking for people who have an aptitude to learn and grow. Ideally, you’ll have recent experience and competent knowledge working in management, operations, and leadership, with a mechanical or electrical background and/or have a minimum HNC qualification or equivalent (City & Guilds or NVQ Level 4) in a related field such as management. Preferably you’ll have experience using a Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM) system. The ability to manage professional relationships is key, such as handling complaints from customers and maintaining professional relationships with tact and sensitivity. You’ll work well with others and make evidence-based decisions for the team.
This role is very hands-on, with plenty of opportunity to develop yourself and others.
Training and Development
At MI5, we’re proud to offer an inclusive and supportive working environment. As an organisation that nurtures talent, we’re committed to helping you fulfil your potential. In fact, you could spend a minimum of 10% of your time on training and development. When you start, you’ll get a two-day induction to help you understand our ways of working and you’ll be assigned a buddy to help you settle in. You’ll be encouraged to drive and shape your own personal development and you’ll have access to learning and development opportunities tailored to your role, as we work with you to build the skills you need to excel in your role and throughout your career. We value your ability to learn and adapt to new challenges, so we’ll invest in your skills and support you to gain professional qualifications and certifications.
Rewards and Benefits
You’ll receive a starting salary of £50,412 plus 12.5% shift allowance (weekend premium and contractual overtime for shift work only). Both working patterns attract other benefits including:
* 25 Days Annual Leave automatically rising to 30 days after 5 years' service, and an additional 10.5 days public and privilege holidays.
