PROFESSIONAL 1. As part of the ward team help achieve and maintain a high standard of patient care. 2. To be assess the patients needs, both physical and psychological, seeking intervention from the wider multi-disciplinary team as appropriate. 3. Maintain individuals privacy & dignity whilst they are inpatients, as well as ensuring there personal care needs are met. 4. To welcome patients and introduce them to the ward routine and ensure they receive the most age appropriate welcome booklet. 5. To be aware of the needs of relatives, and to give them support, advice and direct them to most appropriate supporting agencies. 6. To give and receive the report at change over of duties and ensure handover sheet is updated at each shift. 7. To participate in the rehabilitation of patients and give relatives any necessary instructions and support. 8. Ensure that prescribed drugs and treatments are stored and administered correctly and in accordance with the Hospital Procedure and Policy. Including the administration of chemotherapy through peripheral cannulas and central lines. 9. Correct care and custody of controlled drugs is observed at all times. 10. To follow the correct procedure when notifying relatives of seriously ill patients and those who have died. 11. To liaise with medical and para-medical personnel and community organisations to ensure timely and safe discharges. 12. Ensure that blood products are administered correctly and in accordance with Hospital Procedure and Policy. 13. To participate in internal rotation to night duty as required 14. Report and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy 15. Ensure any concerns are raised and escalated to your line managers EDUCATION 1. Attend all mandatory training and update all e- Learning in accordance with Trust requirements 2. Participate in all unit specific training for JACIE accreditation and TYA/Paediatric requirements including Paediatric life support, safe guarding training and UKONS accredited SACT training. 3. To maintain training updates regarding radiation protection and the management of patients receiving radioiodine treatment and their relatives. 4. Maintain own awareness of current nursing practice. Use relevant educational opportunities to maintain the highest standards and up to date care offered to patient with cancer. 5. Participate in the theoretical and practical professional instruction of all learners and untrained staff and to monitor the progress of learners and, in particular, their skills in carrying out practical procedures.
