Teaching Personnel is excited to be recruiting for an Autism Support Worker to join a welcoming primary school in Blackpool. The Role As an Autism Support Worker, you will work 1:1 with a child in Key Stage 1 (KS1) diagnosed with autism, providing tailored support to help them overcome barriers to learning and thrive in a classroom environment. Key Responsibilities Offering 1:1 assistance tailored to the individual needs of the pupil. Implementing specific strategies to support the child’s communication, sensory, and social development. Encouraging positive behavior and emotional regulation. Supporting the pupil to engage in classroom activities and maintain focus. Liaising with the SENCO, teaching staff, and external professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to the child’s development. What We’re Looking For Experience : Prior experience working with children with autism or in an SEN environment is essential. Skills : Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the pupil’s needs. Knowledge : Understanding of autism-specific strategies, such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) or Makaton, is beneficial. Qualifications : A Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent is advantageous but not essential.
