Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic Role Objectives
The purpose of an Aircraft Sheet Metal Skilled Mechanic is to fabricate, assemble, and repair sheet metal components of aircraft and aircraft structures in accordance with applicable specifications and drawings. This could involve forming, cutting, drilling, riveting, and installing parts using hand and power tools, as well as the use of precision measuring instruments. There may also be responsibilities for the repair and maintenance of various systems and components, such as airframes, wings, fuselages, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic Role
Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanics are responsible for fabricating, repairing, and modifying aircraft parts and components using sheet metal. They inspect and measure parts for accuracy, check and test the finished product, and use a range of hand tools, machines, and welding equipment to perform the job.
Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic Duties
1. Inspect and repair aircraft sheet metal components.
2. Install sheet metal components on aircraft.
3. Fabricate sheet metal components for aircraft.
4. Removal of major structural sections, whilst stress jacked.
5. Drill, ream, and countersink holes on aircraft components.
6. Perform riveting and other fastening techniques.
7. Adhere to company and manufacturers procedures.
Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic Tasks
1. Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
2. Fabricate and assemble components.
3. Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
4. Test and inspect aircraft systems.
Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic Skills
1. Understanding of aviation regulations.
2. Knowledge of aircraft sheet metal structures and components.
3. Ability to use hand and power tools and sheet metal forming equipment.
4. Ability to carry out repairs and modifications to sheet metal components.
Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic Qualifications and Personal Characteristics
1. Minimum of 2 years aircraft production experience or live aircraft experience.
2. Attention to detail.
3. Good communication skills.
4. Ability to follow instructions.
5. Subject to UK security vetting.
