Based at: Scottish Land & Estates’, Eskmills, Musselburgh
Salary Scale: £21,840, £28,340 per annum, dependent on experience.
Hours: 34.5 hours per week (9 – 5 Mon to Thurs, 9 – 4.30 Fri) with some flexibility required
Holidays: 32 days per year including 6 bank holidays

Policy and Public Affairs Assistant
Location: Based at our Musselburgh office, with hybrid working and occasional travel to other locations across Scotland.
Reports to: Director Of Policy

General overview
You will be working at the heart of a busy and vibrant team to play an integral role in the delivery of the organisational objectives. By working to support the Director of Policy, Press & Public Affairs Manager and policy team you will have the opportunity to gain experience and develop professional skills in a diverse range of activities. The role will involve considerable engagement with internal staff, members, and external stakeholders.
Person Specification
Essential
Education/Qualifications: Educated to higher education level or relevant work experience, Degree relevant to the role.
Experience: Understanding of policy landscape and political engagement.
General understanding of, and interest in, issues affecting rural Scotland.
Excellent communications skills, including ability to engage with a wide range of people.
Skills in managing priorities in a pressured working environment and working to deadlines.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Desirable
Experience of working in a policy environment.
Experience of assisting with the organisation of events.
Knowledge of databases and logging of information.
Experience of meeting minute/note taking.
Ability to work flexibly and with enthusiasm.
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends, for which time off will be given in lieu.
A proactive approach to problem solving.
