Job Description:
Scope of Role:
* Involved in full product development lifecycle including major product development contracts, bids/proposals, R&D activities and legacy production support.
* The role includes thermal control equipment/systems design and performance modelling, design verification and full lifecycle development within a gated review New Product Introduction environment.
* This position suits an individual who has a good balance between academic/analytical capabilities and exposure to physical hardware.
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
* Leading the full lifecycle development of thermal control equipment/systems.
* Responsible for design validation and verification as applied to equipment or systems.
* Detailed design and analysis for new fan designs, passive and active cooling systems (vapor cycle refrigeration system), including cooling system/component design and analysis using computational methods and manual calculations.
* Support the preparation of technical proposals, costings and associated documentation to support business development.
* Providing technical support to the sales teams in order to secure new work.
Professional Knowledge & Experience:
* Experience with the bidding/development of thermal systems equipment.
* Able to develop equipment or systems within the constraints of a highly regulated industry and in consideration of technical/commercial requirements; designing to cost, having a right first time approach and balancing the engineering and programme needs of the customer.
* Have experience of a high integrity design and manufacturing environment (Aero, Defence, Rail, Nuclear). A sound understanding of mechanical design principles, requirements-based engineering, requirements elicitation, validation and verification of designs at equipment and system level.
* Experience of Active and Passive Cooling system design and analysis.
* Working knowledge of materials and selection.
* Able to communicate and influence at all levels of the hierarchy through presentations, verbally and written, especially directed at customer interaction.
* Project engineering / project management experience in an NPI environment.
