Associate Practitioner - Respiratory & Sleep
We are recruiting for an Associate Practitioner in the Digswell Sleep & Chest Unit who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
You will play a pivotal role in our sleep diagnostic and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure service maintaining the highest standards of care for our patients undergoing sleep assessment and receiving treatment.
You must be enthusiastic, self-motivated and excellent at communicating with patients at different levels. Computer literacy is a requirement, as your duties will include managing diagnostic and therapy devices and data input.
You will also be working with an experienced team keen to offer you support, help and guidance at any time.

Main duties of the job
You will support the smooth and effective running of the sleep diagnostic and CPAP services by coordinating with both senior and junior staff members as part of a multidisciplinary team. This will include supporting patients as part of their diagnostic assessment, their treatment initiation and follow-up, both face to face and over phone call.
You will perform clinical observations, set patients up with domiciliary sleep studies and CPAP treatment, download and interpret clinical treatment data and complete data input.
Your responsibilities include ensuring sleep diagnostic and therapy equipment is prepared and in good working order, junior staff training and support and liaising with other departments, such as EBME and Supplies for stock provision.
You will be responsible for ensuring equipment cleaning and preparation follows internal protocol and the Trust's infection control standards.
You will take part in the weekly multidisciplinary team meeting and contribute towards ongoing research, education and development activity.
08:30h to 16:30h, Monday to Friday. Most clinical activity will be conducted at Lister Hospital but the staff member will be expected to work cross site at Hertford County Hospital and QE2 in Welwyn.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
* Appropriate NVQ 3/diploma or equivalent
* ARTP basic sleep course
Previous Experience
* Experience with obtaining basic patient observations
* Experience within an acute or outpatient healthcare setting
* Practical experience of working in a sleep and /or respiratory service
* Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
Skills
* Willingness to undertake cross training to extend skill set to deliver role
* Demonstrable interpersonal skills - can work as part of a team or independently
* Ability to supervise less experienced staff, including supporting the training of staff
* Ability to organise and allocate work to less experienced staff to meet needs of the service
* High degree of computer literacy
* Ability to work with healthcare databases and data input
Knowledge
* Demonstrable knowledge of a range of routine and non-routine healthcare science duties
* Basic knowledge of role requirements
* Basic knowledge of common sleep pathologies
* Basic knowledge of common therapy options for sleep related breathing disorders
* Knowledge of Trust IT systems
* Extensive knowledge of sleep diagnostics and treatment
* Knowledge/performance of clinical audit and research

* Ability to be flexible and respond to the needs of the service
* Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team towards wider service delivery
* Experience of training and supporting junior staff members
