The Department for Transport (DfT) is recruiting for a Senior Transport Modeller within the Demand Analysis Team (DAT). DAT, as part of the Transport Appraisal and Strategic Modelling (TASM) team, sits at the heart of the DfT’s analytical communities. TASM manages Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG) for transport modelling and appraisal, develops National Transport Models to support policy developments and transport investments through its Modelling Cell, works closely with stakeholders to strengthen evidence base and provides analytical assurance to the Department’s work. This role will work on the modelling framework of TASM’s transport models to improve quality and management. This will involve pro-actively seeking creative ways to enhance models’ capabilities with advanced computing technologies and digital provision, while having opportunities to work on a range of analysis through TASM’s Modelling Cell (a joint unit within TASM focusing on modelling work). The precise responsibilities could be shaped around the postholder where preferable under TASM’s priorities. Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Working with stakeholders and developing an analytical framework for TASM’s models and TAG Databook to ensure input data, model runs and results are managed in a systematic, easy to access and insightful way based on Scenario Based Analysis. Working as part of the Modelling Cell in TASM to lead tasks and support others for technical improvements and policy developments. Supporting the work to advance TASM’s digital and modelling capabilities in data engineering and cloud computing. Scoping, commissioning, managing and assuring relevant modelling and research from external consultants. Delivering presentations/workshops to both internal and external stakeholders. Additional Information A minimum60%of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance. There may be occasions where you will be required to travel to other DfT offices and attend meetings and visits around the UK.
