Strategy Team
Our Strategy team supports private sector clients make informed strategic planning decisions to protect long-term viability in the face of future shifts in markets, regulations and societal expectations. We provide advocacy across sectors spanning consumer goods, fashion and textiles, logistics, manufacturing, packaging, guiding our clients to navigate forthcoming policies and regulations that aim to reduce environmental impacts, whilst proactively helping to leverage new opportunities to develop sustainable operations, innovation and value creation.
We support organisations in the transition towards sustainable, circular and regenerative business models, working along aside our clients to co-create ambitious targets and plans that take account of materiality, regulation, competitors, clients and stakeholder requirements. Our Strategy team consists of leaders in the field of net zero transition, circular economy and natural capital, supported by a wider pool of experts from across the business, including natural scientists, social scientists, economists, and policy experts.
Job Description
You will play a key role in providing technical leadership across our packaging strategy offer to private sector clients, spanning sectors including consumer goods, retailers, packaging manufacturers and convertors and logistics providers. Technical leadership in the delivery of packaging projects will include a focus on supporting clients to navigate opportunities and risks linked across packaging portfolios, with a focus on packaging avoidance/reduction, reuse, recycled content and recyclability.
In addition to technical leadership across projects, the role will also include supporting client relationship development and management, proposition development, bid management, alongside training and mentoring of staff.
You will work alongside colleagues to deliver projects that meet clients’ needs. You need to be able to work as part of small teams, have excellent interpersonal skills, be an excellent communicator and be comfortable in engaging senior business stakeholders.
You will share our commitment and enthusiasm in delivering high quality work, as well as being able to demonstrate a personal commitment to tackling environmental and sustainability issues.
Essential Criteria
* Educated to at least degree level or equivalent in a relevant field such as engineering, material science, sustainable packaging design.
* Packaging technologist or packaging engineer/convertor background or similar – or experience working in a similar role either within a consultancy, or consumer brand.
* In-depth knowledge of packaging concept design/eco-design, including design for recycling guidelines.
* Demonstrable experience of strong verbal and written communication skills including technical report writing.
* Capability to lead technical research and stakeholder engagement in a corporate setting.
* Experienced in quantitative data methods and analysis to support communication environmental and financial impacts and outcomes.
Desirable Criteria
* Commercial experience – business development / client development and relationship management in the private sector and writing competitive tenders.
* Educated to higher degree level, including MSc, MEng or equivalent.
* Understand of the plastics/packaging policy, regulatory and legislative landscape at European and/or international level.
* Experience of working in or directly with FMCG companies.
