What you’ll be doing
as the Flooding Improvement Process Electrical Technician (FLIP)
1. You will join a specialist team responsible for maintaining FLIP devices throughout the Thames Water region. This is the only team maintaining these Active Drainage Devices that are crucial to the protection of properties from flooding from the Main Sewers.
2. Working on specialist equipment, you will have the opportunity to work on processes that will provide you with skills and experience that cannot be gained elsewhere in the company.
3. Carry out routine planned preventative and reactive maintenance of Sewage drainage System Flip devices in restricted chambers.
4. Carry out electrical or mechanical installation work at properties and sites at which Flip devices are installed.
5. Troubleshooting electrical mechanical fault finding.
6. Reporting on the condition of Flip devices and identifying spares and Bought in Service requirements.
7. Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate with up-to-date technical knowledge and provide training support for technical trainees.
8. Liaising with external customers at properties at which Flip devices are installed.
9. Demonstrate adherence to Health and Safety policies.
10. Fit to carry out lifting of manhole lids in some difficult-to-access positions.
11. Fit to be able to lift and return various manhole lids daily. (approx. 5 lids a day)
12. Fit to climb up and down ladders.
What you should bring to the role
13. You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity.
14. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering.
15. Ideally you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
16. Ideally NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 would be beneficial however, not essential.
17. For individuals with mechanical or electrical experience only, we will look to develop the right people to dual skilled status.
18. Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
19. The work will require physical fitness; as you will work in restricted spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
20. A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as vehicles and tools are provided.
