Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with legal requirements and best practices. Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken. Provide expert advice and support to managers and staff on health and safety matters. Organise and deliver health and safety training programs for employees at all levels. Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, and recommend preventive measures. Maintain accurate records of health and safety activities, including incident reports and training logs. Liaise with external bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other regulatory agencies as needed. Promote a culture of health and safety awareness throughout the council. Qualifications And Experience NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification. Proven experience in a health and safety role, ideally within a local government or public sector environment. Thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications and health and safety management software.
