Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Principal Composites Structural Engineer to lead the structural design of a diverse portfolio of high-performance vessels. Primary Responsibilities
The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Structural design of the portfolio of composite vessels.
2. Optimisation of vessels for weight, manufacture, and cost.
3. FEA of vessel structures.
4. Preliminary weight estimates of vessel structures.
5. Design for manufacture of structures.
General Accountabilities and Responsibilities
1. Use personal judgement and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles in day-to-day activities and procedures within the specified role.
2. Maintain personal ability in, and appropriate use of, all relevant IT systems required to adequately perform the role.
3. Act ethically, with integrity, and in the best interest of the business at all times.
4. Maintain a professional and supportive relationship with team members and other departments to deliver business objectives or deadlines.
5. Carry out any other duties as detailed by a member of the senior management team or an authorised representative.
6. Maintain good time management to minimise any wasted time and maximise productivity and effectiveness.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
1. Ensure that the working area is a clean and safe environment in compliance with best practice and health and safety policies.
2. Ensure any equipment used is safe, within electrical test date, and that all guards and interlocks are working and in place.
3. Act safely and responsibly in line with company processes and health and safety procedures to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
4. Report any potential health and safety hazards or violations to your supervisor/line manager or directly to the QHSE Manager.
5. Ensure any PPE or workwear required or provided for the job is worn and checked regularly for wear, reporting when replacements are required.
Person SpecificationEssential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
1. Liaison with relevant regulatory bodies.
2. Finite Element Analysis and optimisation of composites using Siemens NX Simcenter/FEMAP against class rules.
3. Liaison with shipyard shop floor for design changes and updates/as fits (in house/out of house).
4. Weight prediction for early-stage concepts using hand calculations and class rules.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
1. 3D CAD modelling in Siemens NX.
2. Project management.
3. Configuration control.
4. Mentoring of junior engineers.
