Job summary The vascular nurse specialist will provide continuing support and guidance for vascular patients, providing advanced / extended nursing practice. The post holder will provide professional guidance for the nursing and multidisciplinary team acting as a role model for all levels. Main duties of the job The vascular nurse specialist will play a key role in the promotion of clinical effectiveness, evidence-based practice and clinical governance. They will be required to help deliver care, which will include independent assessment, clinical decision making, reporting of findings, carry out treatments and care as appropriate and the recommendation for further investigation and treatment. The vascular nurse specialist will work as part of the established vascular team, to provide specialist / expert knowledge to all users of the service, including medical staff, allied health professionals, nursing staff, patients and carers. The post holder is required to supervise and teach both qualified and unqualified staff as well as assist in the support of research, audit and quality assurance projects. The post holder will be proactively involved in the development of vascular services and the delivery of nurse led services in both the ward and clinic settings. The role of vascular nurse specialist will be sensitive and responsive to the changing needs of the service.
