Your new role
A Principal Sustainability Consultant role for an individual who holds broad but extensive knowledge of sustainability, with a proven track record of working successfully within the industry either as a consultant or delivering in-house sustainability services, while leading and managing a team. You will have experience in building client relationships and project managing the delivery of sustainability programmes. You will feel confident in discussing how sustainability is managed and embedded across the business, while requesting evidence, being inquisitive and identifying gaps in how an organisation manages its approach. This is not apliance-based role, but one that looks to createpetitive advantage or sector leadership through improving social and environmental impacts.This role includes responsibility for direct line management and the development of a team.
Responsibilities vary according to client needs, but can include:
1. Interpreting corporate reporting data and using the information to identify risks and opportunities
2. Developing sales leads and preparing bids and proposals, including costing
3. Developing ESG and Net Zero Strategies aligned with clients’mercial goals and culture
4. Leading the delivery of clients’ sustainability programmes through project teams
5. Leading and guiding team members towards achieving organisational goals. This includes providing clear direction, setting expectations and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
6. Developing zero carbon roadmaps including Scope 3 emissions
7. Contributing to the development of new service offers and the assets used to deliver them
8. Speaking at events and preparing thought leadership pieces
What you'll need to succeed
As a Principal Sustainability Consultant should be able to demonstrate:
9. Several years’ experience of successfully leading sustainability projects, ideally as a consultant or alternatively leading a team as an in-house corporate sustainability professional
10. Strong experience of the principles of net zero carbon, science-based targets and materiality
11. Good understanding of ESG materiality and the ability to identify material issues for a broad range of businesses
12. Strong understanding of the domestic ESG regulatory framework and how businesses should be adapting
13. Extensive experience of conducting audits, identifying gaps in sustainability performance and preparing reports
14. Ability to lead multiple projects and deliver them on time and within budget
15. The ability to confidently build and manage client relationships and lead multidisciplinary teams
16. Experience of leading and managing a team to achieve goals that contribute to the growth of thepany
17. Good delegation skills and the ability to motivate others
18. A sound understanding of themercial context of sustainability
19. A good understanding of the principles of net zero carbon and science-based targets
20. A working knowledge ofmon reporting frameworks
21. Excellent English oral and written skills; strong presentation skills
