A vacancy has arisen for a HGV Lead Driver to join our team within our new Operations and cleaning of a Biomass handling & storage facility contract at the Port of Tyne.
The lead driver role is to drive and operate the HGV tippers during vessel discharge periods and ensure that the HGV tipper drivers (HIS/Agency) are correctly set to work, complying with all site instructions and requirements to ensure full compliance during these operations at all times. Hours of work will be dependent on vessel schedules.
Liaising with all HGV tipper operators to ensure statutory cleaning is carried out to the desired level and visual checks are completed during the shift.
Ensure all data is logged onto our VEHOCHECK system by all individuals, including pre-start checks, post work checks, and scheduled cleaning.
Work closely with the plant supervisor to ensure all defects and maintenance requirements are requested via the right channels.
Police the day-to-day HGV operations and be the point of contact between the HGV operators and all key stakeholders.
Hargreaves Industrial Services provide operations and cleaning service to our client at the Port of Tyne Biomass handling facility, responsible for the safe movements and handling of Biomass following discharge from vessels and the dispatch of loaded rail wagons within the Port.
The role briefly encompasses the following duties:
1. Primary role: Operations of HGV tippers transporting Biomass from the quayside hoppers through to site storage facilities in a supervisory capacity.
2. Secondary role: Supporting the requirements to move materials outside of vessel windows, cleaning of the HGV tippers when not in operation, and supporting the cleaning of the Wood pellet facility.
Be the point of contact between the HGV operators (HIS/Agency) and all other stakeholders. Proactively police all operators with their day-to-day duties.
Liaise with the plant supervisor to ensure vehicles are deep cleaned, and oil, lube, and service checks are performed on the machine, ensuring readiness for use.
Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed to support plant operations and material movements. Maintain all plant and equipment in an operationally safe and clean condition.
Ensure all plant is operated correctly, with walk-around checks completed prior to entering the quayside, ensuring sheets are in the correct position and rear doors are secured.
Complete all pre-start checks, post work checks, and cleaning checks as required, logging all details onto VEHOCHECK by all operators.
Ensure the plant fuelling system is used correctly by all operators. Complete the daily/operational POWRA, updating as required and delivering it to the shift team.
Understand Safe Working Procedures and deliver team/shift toolbox talks. Attend any meetings or training sessions as required.
The ideal candidate will be a good communicator with a strong understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace. The successful candidate will also be required to support other roles within the operation (training will be provided), including:
* Banksman/blow down operations
* FEL operations
* Quayside hopper operations
* MEWP operations
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills/experience/attributes:
* Recognised HGV licence with tipper experience (HIS Internal licence acceptable)
* Previous experience in a supervisory position
* IOSH managing safety (Min standard - training given)
* Experience of working within a materials handling environment
* Previous experience working within a Biomass handling environment (Desirable)
