Role Responsibility Kent Trading Standards are offering an exciting opportunity, for a self-motivated and dynamic individual to join the Imports Compliance Team. Based in Dover, you will play a crucial frontline role in ensuring that imported non-food products are suitable for entry into the United Kingdom and safe for use by the public. As part of the UK Border Controls, collaborative working with partner agencies will form an essential part of this role and you will be contributing to keeping the UK border secure whilst facilitating legitimate trade and access to the UK marketplace. The Team are mobile and cover a variety of port locations throughout Kent. You will be expected to regularly attend and work at these locations often at short notice in order to meet the demands of the service. The work at these locations will involve intelligence-led physical examinations of imported products. We are seeking a motivated and pro-active individual with proven problem-solving skills along with demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills. Along with having an enquiring mind the post holder must have strong observational skills and an attention to detail, as well as the ability to work both within a team environment and using their own initiative. Flexibility and adaptability are key in order to be able to respond changing priorities, whilst managing a caseload. The successful candidate must demonstrate a willingness to actively engage in the work of the unit including supporting colleagues to ensure that deadlines are met. There are also opportunities to support the activities of the wider Trading Standards Service.
