Director, Pharmacovigilance

Role Overview
The Director of Pharmacovigilance is expected to embrace and contribute to our culture of process improvement and quality output, with a focus on streamlining our processes adding value to our business and meeting client needs. Directors will lead Managers (Operational or Project) and create and maintain client relationships to secure repeat business with assigned clients, projects and/or portfolios through successful delivery of project timelines and quality data while maintaining profitability.
Client Interfacing
1. Recognize, exemplify and adhere to ICON's values which center on our commitment to People, Clients and Performance.
2. Provide leadership and consultancy to clients and project teams with respective professional area of ICON service including Pharmacovigilance system gap analysis, process development, system implementation, and inspection readiness, Pharmacovigilance department development.
3. Provide both strategic and tactical input on the planning and execution of client projects.
4. Serve as a member of Steering/Executive Committees as part of relationship governance, attend related meetings, and resolve escalated issues.
5. Be assigned on standalone safety projects including provision of project governance, and oversight of timelines and budgets as appropriate.
6. Responsible for strategic portfolio program delivery and oversight.
7. Keep senior management appraised of any potential/actual project or staffing issues or risks and develop solutions for the same.
8. Create and maintain client partnerships to secure repeat business with assigned clients, projects and/or portfolios through successful delivery of project timelines and quality data while maintaining profitability.
9. May serve as Local/Qualified Person for Pharmacovigilance (including deputy level).
Business Development & Department
1. Provide input to proposals for project bids per functional area on an as-needed basis.
2. Participate in developing hiring targets and achieving hiring objectives.
3. Forecast new hires based on company NBA relevant to the department, forecast of quarterly backlog, utilization, turnover.
4. Develop, implement, and monitor department profitability and operating goals, objectives, metrics, budgets, and strategies.
5. Direct the strategic global operational or project functions within end-to-end Pharmacovigilance.
6. Participate in developing new and existing business by attending and supporting sales presentations.
7. Be responsible for representation at industry meetings and corporate strategy and initiatives.
8. Monitor metrics, performance and staffing and issue reports to senior management.
9. Direct the re-engineering of and implementation of process improvement to improve the efficiency of assigned projects and global pharmacovigilance processes.
People Leader
1. Interface with corporate recruiting to ensure effective interviewing and hiring of required staff.
2. Provide line management of all assigned staff and lead a team of Pharmacovigilance operational or project experts.
3. Ensure appropriate employee resources are available to meet corporate and project objectives.
4. Responsible for the training of staff to ensure optimal performance and compliance with ICON systems and processes.
5. Responsible for career development, assessment, feedback, and retention.
6. Coach and mentor staff and provide feedback on performance.
