Business area introduction
The European Leveraged Finance Team is responsible for the origination, structuring and underwriting of non-investment grade corporates and private equity backed companies.
Key activities
The role holder will help drive the origination of Leveraged Finance activities for the Bank's European clients:
* This will include both Sponsor-backed and Corporate clients across both Leveraged Loan and High Yield opportunities on both a committed and best effort basis.
* Provide clients with Corporate Finance advice as it relates to capital structures and financing needs including acquisition finance in the non-investment grade space as well as refinancing requirements within the non-investment grade space.
* Also involved in the execution of such transactions as required, working in close collaboration with GIG Bankers, M&A, ECM, and relevant risk management teams.
* Operate in close liaison with North American members of the Leveraged Finance Group to advance Santander Leveraged Finance Franchise.
* Operate in close cooperation with Financial Sponsor Coverage team to strengthen Bank's relationships with relevant Gold and Platinum clients.
* Expected to contribute to the overall growth and success of Santander Global Banking & Corporate Finance (BCF), particularly the development of a sustainable and well-regarded international Corporate Finance franchise.
* Expected to engage with product teams including Risk Solutions, Global Transaction Banking, Securitisation and Markets - to help originate financing opportunities arising from Santander's Corporate Finance dialogue and transactions in the sector.
* Act as leader and role model within the organisation in developing its people, its franchise and upholding the Santander values.
* Personal responsibility to embed and adhere to all regulatory risk, compliance and governance responsibilities.
What we're looking for
* Experience in the Leveraged Finance market within an established institution, and credentials that include playing an active role in the origination and execution of Lev Fin Mandates.
* Existing industry relationships with sponsors and market participants.
* Strong knowledge of legal documentation and best practice and evidence of successful executed deal leadership.
* Committed to meeting deadlines and expect to be available for unsociable hours when executing transactions.
* Knowledge of how a credit process within a large bank environment works and to have sufficient experience and knowledge of the loan market and its practices to be able to challenge decisions that are not commercially reasonable or challenge the good ethics of Santander.
* Excellent presentational skills and interpretation of accuracy of information flow.
* Strong modelling skills and financial analysis.
* Ability to be innovative with information data sources such as Debtwire, Mergermarket, LCD News, Dealogic and Bloomberg.
* CISI Regulation.
* CISI Securities.
* Educated to Degree level in a relevant subject (Finance / Economics etc).

This role is based in our Triton Square office in London, conveniently located within walking distance from Euston Station and Warren Street Station.
