This role is an opportunity for an experienced Firedrake and PyOP3 developer to contribute to simulation science by developing and supporting advanced finite element software.
What you would be doing
In the initial months, the objective is to integrate PyOP3 into the Firedrake framework, and establish evidence of the performance, correctness and generality of this approach. In the later months, your role broadens to support and develop the Firedrake system and its user community as determined by the outcome of the upcoming Firedrake community engagement process. You will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to contribute to attracting external research funding.
What we are looking for
* A PhD in computational mathematics or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.
* Knowledge of computational mathematics, and in particular software abstractions for the numerical solutions of PDEs.
* Detailed understanding of the PyOP3 system.
* Skills in scientific software engineering and the techniques required to produce robust, efficient, and correct
* Practical experience in developing and deploying scientific software, in particular in the Firedrake system.

Further information
The position is fixed term for 12 months. The expected start date is 1 April 2025.
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range, £43,003 - £46,297 per annum.
